My Mood Boards: Mise-en-scène!

Hey everybody!

This week I learned about mise-en-scène and what goes into the formation of a singular scene. So, I’ve made a mood board for 4 different locations of sets.

1) Zoo

I chose to add photographs of zoo scenery that includes directional signs, a large “Madagascar” archway, two children looking and petting different animals, and a group of individuals holding cups of a popular ice-cream among kids, “Dippin’ Dots.” I chose these sets of images because they are nostalgic elements of childhood and I would want the audience to reminisce about their memories of a fun trip to the zoo they might’ve taken wit their family or friends. The audience should make the assumption that the actors are rambunctious teenagers and kids enjoying their time together at the zoo, perhaps they’re a little rebellious as well.

2) Cat Café

I chose to add "warm" looking photos of the interior of a cat café. This includes a counter with baked goods for display, seats and tables, tasty-looking mugs of coffee and sweets, and two actors petting cats at a booth table. I chose these images because they specifically add a "cute" feeling and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere to the scene. The audience should assume the actors value quiet-time and are introverted because they spend their time in such an environment.

3) Saloon

For this mood board, I added photos of the interior and exterior of an old bar, a lonely dog lying on the floor, perhaps waiting for the return of its owner, and a man standing beside his horse. I chose these photos because they're rustic and contribute to one's perspective of what an olden saloon from the wild west would look like in 17th and 18th century. The audience can assume that the actor is on a trail-blazing quest and that this scene most likely follows or prefaces an action-packed adventure.

4) Enchanted Magical Library

In this mood board, I chose images with the help of A.I. generated art to create a magical scene of a library, with photos of the interior, desks with books and artifacts like potions, and a singular girl studying. These photos add a sense of wonder and contribute to the scene by creating an unrealistic world, different from our own. The audience should assume they're in a fantasy and dystopian universe and that the actor prioritizes her studies and prefers alone-time in the magical chaos of this enchanted library.

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed my creative attempt at expressing  mise-en-scène through my mood boards.
