Hello everybody! My group and I were super excited to start filming our opening scene. Since we were filming at my house, o ur first step was to move my dining room table so we could use the plainly decorated background for the scenes involving Johansen and me. We grabbed some simple decorations inside my home like a side table and potted plant to add to our background. We did our best to mak e my house seem like a professional atmosphere, that of a therapy clinic. Here is a photograph of Jamil recording a scene between our characters, the therapist and the patient. We filmed the majority of these scenes between Johansen and I , one day after I created the script a nd shared it with the group. Here is a photograph of us going over the script and stage directions . (Featuring my little chihuahua, Timmy, at our feet) Our main cameraman , Jamil, was also present during this to ensure he knew what kinds of shots and movements we wanted for each scene. There...
Welcome back to my blog! This week I learned about composition ! More specifically, framing and depth of field. Here are some of my clips showcasing the different framing styles and focus depths I learned. 1. This is my example of a standard focus scene. Here, the background is slightly blurred as opposed to a shallow focus. As the subject sits alone on a bench, the light blur of the background enhances the feeling of solitary. Being surrounded by a few other students, yet not having them pull away from the main actress's attention, helps the audience feel the same sense of tranquility and the demure display of the subject as she looks off into the distance. 2. This is my example of a shallow focus scene. Here, the background is heavily blurred compared to a standard focus. As the two individuals converse, all else occurring around them is left in the distance. This provides a more intimate feel of the conversation they're having at the table, across from each other. The aud...
Hi! This week I'm evaluating the reviews of my group's opening scene. 1. From Mahathi Peer Review " In this clip, I liked various technical elements. Firstly, we have insert, crane shots, voice overs, and more. In the beginning of the clip, we see an insert of the flickering lights. This grabs the audience attention to let us know that it is sort of eerie or creepy vibes. The background music adds on to the suspense of the clip. I furthermore liked the straight cut on the actress constantly scratching her finger, to her legs shaking. This lets us know that the actress is nervous and potentially has anxiety. One thing I disliked is the use of type of lighting used. What would be better is if used more of low-key lighting. This would add onto the suspense. Furthermore, the types of characters used, a therapist and someone who is not mentally okay. The low-key lighting would give the audience some sort of creepy vibes. I also did not like the type of cut used when the actre...
